It was founded in 1330 and has undergone repeated reconstructions. In the years of the Soviet era there was the Palace of Pioneers, at present there is the place of residence of the president of Latvia as well as the Museum of Latvian History and the Museum of Foreign Arts. The cozy garden attaching to the Castle adds a particular charm to this historic area with its benches and the shadow of the massive trees that gives shelter to lovers.
