In the cemetery at the church there is a monument to the lovers – baron Stempel and a servant girl Anna – with an epitaph “Mēs citādi nevarējām” (“We could not act otherwise”). Any Vērgale citizen can tell you the tragic story about two lovers – the son of baron Stempel and a poor girl Anna who preferred to die together rather than live apart as ordered by their parents. Entrance upon donations. Please schedule the visit in advance
