In 1977 the Kraslava branch of the Daugavpils Local History and Art Museum was opened, which formed the basis of the independent Kraslava History and Art Museum, founded in 1983. The museum is located in one of the buildings of Kraslava Castle, built in the 18th century. About 15 000 items are stored in the museum store, including samovars, irons, kerosene lamps, ethnographic articles and works of art. These and other items are displayed in regular changing exhibitions in the museum's exhibition hall. The museum also organizes exhibitions of the creations of Latgallian artists.
