In Pardaugava, near Mara's Pond and Arkadija Park, you are welcome to visit the writer Janis Akuraters' (1876-1937) wooden mansion, designed by the architect Verners Vitands in the early 1930s. Memorabilia and interior decoration such as the fire-place, works by Latvian artists, and perfectly preserved furniture which once belonged to the Akuraters family, give a taste of what life was like in the 1930s when the writer's guests were the leading figures in Latvian cultural life. ‘‘ (Latvian Museum Association) |
