Description
On May, 1879, German Baron Otto Friedrich von Lilienfeld founded a port town and named it after his brother Paul Lilienfeld, Governor of Kurzeme (1868-1885) - Paulshafen, or Pavilosta. He also laid the foundation stone in the pilot's house, the first brick building in Pavilosta. Since 1992 this building has housed the Pavilosta Regional Studies Museum. The museum stores more than 6 143 exhibits. Over 1000 of them are on display in the permanent exhibition that tells about the history of Pavilosta and Saka district. Many unique historical items have been found in the Saka civil parish including stone and bone axes, bronze brooches and belts and even such a rarity as a honey press
