Description
Length – 6,3 m, width – 4,6 m, height – 3,8 m, circumference 17,7 m, volume – 36 m³, kopā ar atlūzušo daļu būtu 40 m³. Split in two parts.
Between the two parts there is small stream flowing - Maurupite. In 1993 this old flow of the stream was renowated by Nature Heritage Fund.
For several centuries this boulder has served as a romantic meeting place for local youth, playground for children. When local landlord made stone stairway for his palace in 19th century (stone was brought from Finland), farmers decided to keep up with the landlord. Melnaci stone was coveted by two friends and neighbours from the nearby Speki and Melnaci farmsteads - it served as borderstone of both farmsteads. Neighbours became enemies and prepared to sue each other. Strong thunder followed and lightning split the stone. Both neighbours lost interest in it.
