Description
Largest known boulder in Latvia. Length – 10,5 m, width – 10,4 m, height – 3,5 m, circumference – 31,1 m, volume of the visible part – 170 m³. Surface well rounded, with many cracks. There was removed the gravel around the stone and landscaped surroundings of the stone in 1991. Boulder served as borderstone between Nicgale and Kalupe forestries once ago, it was belowed meeting and resting place for hunters. There is permanent shadow cast by nearby forest over the boulder. This is one of factors turning the stone into valuable habitat. This boulder is the only locality for two species of rare moss in Latvia. Located in untypical site for large Latvian boulders - it sits on the bed of glacial lake, on clay.
