Description
Ecke Convent House, situated on Skārņu iela 20/22, in this area is also the centre of attention. It is an old building that had been adjusted for sheltering needs of the guild fellows’ widows from 1594 to 1596. On the first floor of the building there is a former oratory (with mirror arch and remnants of wall paintings) and a kitchen with a mantle chimney, but on the upper floor and small living rooms. The facade of the building is decorated with a moulding “Christ and a sinner (woman)” built-in 1618, being one of the most famous artistic monuments of mannerism in Latvia. The rococo style gantries have remained since reconstruction in 1777.
