Description
The church of the holy and right-believing grand prince Alexander Nevsky in Riga it’s a unique wooden architecture monument of the first quarter of the XIX century, as well as one of the most honoured and beloved orthodox churches in Riga. The church has become a kind of a symbol of inter-religious, universally human and transnational unity – it is visited by people of different confessions, Riga citizens and visitors.

The ancient church, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, is located in the historic centre of Riga. The classicist-style building, surrounded by rotunda columns, is a municipal and national architectural monument; it is registered in the list of protected cultural monuments as an example of classicism style of the first quarter of the XIX century and is considered a true architectural masterpiece, which has remained until today.
On 1 June, 2012, the parish of the Alexander Nevsky Church received funding for realization of the project “Restoration, renovation of the Riga Alexander Nevsky Orthodox church for broader public access and provision of socio-economic use” (Project Nr. 3DP/3.4.3.3.0/11/APIA/CFLA/011) within the European Union co-financing. The repair and restoration works of the project were completed in 2015 when celebrates its 190th anniversary. The church has become a true decoration of the Latvian capital centre.
