The Daugavpils Museum of Regional Studies and Arts was founded in 1938. A considerable amount of the collection was lost during World War II. In August 1944 the museum was reborn, and since 1959 the museum has been situated in a separate building on Riga Street. In 1991 a gradual redevelopment of the exhibition began. The new part of the exhibition shows local history and nature from ancient times up to 1922.
