Description
The Cesis Museum of History and Art was founded in 1925. It is housed in and around Cesis Medieval Castle. The museum ensemble consists of Cesis Medieval Castle and Cesis Manor including the New Castle and the former coach house, which now accomodates an exhibition gallery. The museum offers: a display illustrating the history of Cesis and its environs from ancient times until today; a walk by the light of lanterns through the dark cellars and winding stairs of Cesis Medieval Castle - the former residence of the Masters of Livonian Order This includes stories about the construction of Cesis Medieval Castle and the life of the knights; a visit to the ancient jeweller's workroom - the workshop of experimental archaeology and the opportunity to try making your own jewellery; art exhibitions of Latvian and foreign artists and chamber music concerts at the Cesis Exhibition House
