Description
“(1301) – a Livonian Order Castle built as a stronghold on the shore of a picturesque mill lake. The castle contains a museum and from time to time medieval festivals are staged. Banquets, concerts, games and midnight excursions are available for groups. There are also hotel rooms. Locals believe that the castle is haunted by the old baron. " The castle of the Livonian Order in Jaunpils, built in the 14th century, is one of the few medieval stone castles still existing in Latvia. It is a typical knight's castle, a real fortress, enclosed by a mill pond on three sides. For more than 500 years the castle was owned by the family of German Baron von der Rekke. The museum was opened to the public in 1993 and exhibitions are regularly held here.
