Description
The museum has its beginnings in 'Writer's Corner' in the Musuem of Pedagogy, organised by Latvian teachers led by J. Greste. These displays included collecitons of original materials about R. Blaumanis, A. Brigadere, F. Barda, Rainis, Aspazija and composer E. Darzins, thus creating the basis for the collections of the Literature, Theatre and Music Museum.
The Literature, Theatre and Music Museum is a wide profile museum of cultural history, which familiarises the viewer with Latvian liteature, theatre and music as well as particular genres of art. The mission of the museum is to collect, store, study and popularise the spiritual and material wealth of Latvian literary, theatrical and musical heritage from their beginnings to today, in all their diversity.
The Exhibition 'Musical instruments in Latvia' is a tribute to Riga as a once noteworthy city of piano masters. There can be seen not only antique and restored board piano, upright pianos and organ, but also wind instruments and the strings.
