Description
Strūve geodetic arc is the first precise measurement, performed in order to attain precise form and proportions of the Planet according to Newton’s theory that the planet is not in shape of a regular sphere. This measurement was performed in the second half of 19th century. Geodetic arc is a chain consisting of 258 triangles and 265 geodetic points. These points are located in ten North-European and East-European, as well as Asian countries. The chain of meridian arc is 2800 kilometres long. 16 points of this chain are located in Latvia.
