Description
The Vecdaugava Regional Studies and Fishing Museum is located on the banks of the Vecdaugava - in a historic area in a beautiful nature reserve. The nature reserve serves to protect rare plants and the nesting sites of various water birds. The foundations of an early 13th century cistersian cloister are located here as well as part of the wall and moat of the old Daugavgriva fortress. The museum displays documents, plans, photographs, fishing tackle and tools which demonstrate the work and lives of fishermen in the last century. Here it is also possible to view items associated with the activities of workers in related shore manufacturing industries. During the summer season the museum offers various recreational facilities including a boat, fishing, horse riding, etc. ‘‘ (Latvian Museum Association)
