Apraksts Aizkraukle ir viena no jaunākajām Latvijas pilsētām. Tās pirmsākumi meklējami pagājušā gadsimta sešdesmitajos gados, kad, sākoties Pļaviņu HES celtniecībai, tur veidojās celtnieku ciemats. Tas turpināja strauji augt, līdz 1967. gadā ieguva pilsētas statusu. Tajā pašā laikā pilsēta kļuva par rajona centru. Līdz pat 1990. gadam to sauca par Stučku. Tur veidojās viss, kas nepieciešams rajona centram - administratīvās ēkas, rajona slimnīca, kultūras nams, skolas un viesnīca. 1990. gadā pilsētu pārdēvēja par Aizkraukli.
Vārds Aizkraukle radies no hidronīma “Asscrade”, kas latviski skan “Ašķere” – tā saucās strauts, Daugavas pieteka. Daļa pētnieku vietvārdus Askrāde un Aizkraukle saista ar vietu aiz krāvumiem, aiz krācēm, jo pie Aizkraukles beigušās Daugavas krāces.
Šodien Aizkraukle ir vieta, kur vēsturiskais mantojums mijas ar jaunu kultūru, lauki mijas ar pilsētu. Tu esi nonācis 3 Latvijas vēsturisko novadu – Zemgales, Augšzemes un Vidzemes – krustpunktā. Vietā, kur dzīvoja Aizkrauklis un viņa meita Spīdala. |
