Apraksts Grobiņas vēsture aizsākusies vēl ilgi pirms Liepājas pirmsākumiem - no 6. - 8. gs. te atradusies lielākā zināmā skandināvu tirgotāju un karavīru kolonija Baltijā. Ieceļotāji no Gotlandes un Zviedrijas iekšzemes savu apmetni ierīkoja paklanā, tolaik kuģojamās upes Ālandes malā. Vēsturnieki teic, ka tieši te atradusies 9.gs. hronikās minētā kuršu pils Seeburg. Pēc ordeņa pils uzcelšanas 13.gs. Grobiņa kļuva par novada centru. Pilsētas tiesības tā ieguva 1695. gadā. Līdz pat 1920. gadam tai formāli bija pakļauta arī Liepāja.
Pilsētas senākā apbūve izveidojusies ap Lielo, Saules un Parka ielām. Vēsturisks moments pilsētas vēsturē bija 1897. gadā, kad tika uzsākta pilsētas ielu bruģēšana.
Tagad Grobiņa faktiski ir Liepājas priekšpilsēta. |
